Social Policy and its Application to Social Services Provision (work exp) My Placement is with a charity called Home Start they offer support and friendship to young families living in the South side of Glasgow that are experiencing difficulties in their home life. The initial referral of a family can come from a number of places families can self-refer or it can be by a health professional, nurse, health visitor, social worker or doctor that has spent time with them and feels they would benefit from some additional support that isn’t currently being offered to them. Home Start can only offer support to families if they have a child living at home that is under the age of 8 years old. I am involved with a woman and her 3 year old daughter they have moved here from another country and have no family or friends around them so the mum is feeling lonely and isolated. My job is to visit the family home once a week and to offer support and practical help to help them feel less alone and give them any information on local groups or clubs they could attend to get them out and involved in their community. Getting it Right for Every Child (GIRFEC) is one of the main strategies which relate to Home Start this is because all of the families involved with Home Start have young children. GIRFEC was introduced to provide a consistent way for people to work with all children and young people.
